Full Description
{1}The name of this quarry is a bit of a misnomer as it did not exist in Spratton but just to the south of Brixworth. The name being taken from the point where the quarry tramway joined the Northampton to Market Harborough LNWR line just south of Spratton station. The first owner Attenborough & Co. from 1873 and quarrying took place on both sides of the Northampton road just south of the village. The quarries were described as standing in 1896/7 but then operating resumed and the quarries were taken over by Attenborough & Timms from 1899. In 1912 the ground west of the Northampton road was leased to Staverley Coal & Iron Co Ltd., for a year. The area east of the road was leased by Staverley in 1918, reopened by them in 1939 and worked intermittenly by them until 1939. The partnership of Attenborough & Timms appears to have been dissolved in 1913.
