Full Description
{1} Owners from 1st January 1869 Stanton Ironworks Co.Ltd until closure in 1918. Although the lease for the quarry was obtained in 1869 quarrying did not take place until 1875 when a lease was obtained to gain access to the Midland railway. At the start the quarry was worked by horse power and started in the area of Finedon Hill Farm to the east of the buildings. In 1884 the track reached sidegate lane and the lease was extended to the north of the lane. In 1909 all the stone under shallow cover had been removed and in that year the underground Finedon Hill mine was opened. The mine was worked by the pillar and stall method up to 7ft of stone being removed. Worked continued at the mine until expiry of the lease in 1918.
