Full Description
{1} Owners from prior to 1891 exact date unsure Hunsbury Hill Iron Co. from c1889 Thomas Butlin & Co.Ltd., and from 1930 Wellingborough Iron Co.Ltd until closure. There were two quarries in this site. The northern one in Raunds parish mined ironore and the southern limestone. The output was moved by horsepower and gravity and from the road end the ore was conveyed by horse and cart to Irthlingborough railway station. When the original companies leases ran out in 1901 the second company took over. It is not known when the quarries, when in the hands of Butlins, Closed but it is believed in the early part of the 20th century. In 1930 it is believed a lease was obtained to work the limestone in the Stanwick area using lorries between the quarry and Wellingborough works. It is thought that this operation took place for only a short time.
