Full Description

{1} Owner from 1867 W.B.Stopford (landowner), from 1869 Islip Iron Ore Co, from 1873 Islip Iron Co, from 1875 Islip Iron Co.Ltd., reconstructed 8th August 1903, from 1932 Stewarts & Lloyds Ltd and from 1st January 1950 Stewarts & Lloyds Minerals Ltd closure 29th October 1952. This is the last of a group of quarries all connected to the Islip Ironworks and all by the same tramway workings. These quarries were to the south west of Twywell and lying either side of the Midland and later LMS railway line. The southern workings stretching down to the Thrapston to Kettering road. Workings in this area commenced in 1908 and finally ceased in 1948.

{2} 2 or 3 Roman pots and at least 4 Anglo-Saxon undecorated pots found during C19th quarrying in the area, now at St. Nicholas church, Twywell. All the pots appear to be complete examples.
