{1}Owners from 1857 Glendon Iron Co.from 23rd June 1886 Glendon Iron Co.Ltd,from 1892 James Pain, from 12th Septyember 1905 James Pain Ltd, from 1928 Stanton Ironworks Co Ltd.,from 1st January 1950 Stewarts & Llyods Ninerals Ltd,from 29th March 1970 British Steel Corporation,Tubes Division Minerals. closure 1979. When the Midland mainline was being considered the existence of the rich bed of ironstone was one of the factors that influenced the final choice of the final troute via Kettering, Desborough and Market Harborough. The exploitation of the deposits started soon after the opening the railway. With a working life of 117years Glendon were the longest lived quarries in the Midlands and they covered an area of about four square miles lying between the Rivers Ise and Slade. The quarries to start with were astride the Midland mainline at the Corby branch junction.Production ceased in 1931 with the depression and did not revive until 1941 with increased demand for the war. The last weeks as a working unit were parallel to the events at Corby production near the end of 1979 was interrupted by strike action by steel workers and the last ore was cut on the last day of 1979.
