Full Description
{1} Owners from January 1920 Bloxham & Whiston Ironstone Co.Ltd; from 1st January 1932 Stewarts & Lloyds Ltd;from 1st January 1950 Stewarts & Lloyds Minerals Ltd until closure in 1952. Quarrying commenced in the area to the northeast of the Harringworth to Laxton road but later crossed the road to a smaller degree. Another quarry was later opened up adjacent to the Midland Railway Kettering to Manton line. Initially the quarrying was done by hand but later locomotive power arrived. Production began ibn 1924 but was very intermittent and ceased in 1927. The revival began in 1931 with Plateau North and South although one had an unofficial name of "Coffin Pit" because of an ancient coffin discovered in the diggings. The junction of the quarry sidings and Midland line was just to the south of the Harringworth Viaduct. Closure occurring in 1952.
