Full Description

{1} Owners believed to be S.H.Blackwell & Co. the date is unknown but a report of the site was in the 24th January 1852 issue of the 'Northampton Mercury' Reporting a rich vein of ore had been opened up at the back of the workhouse in Wootton and a few 100yards from the Hardingstone Quarry fields [Mon No.8405] but on the south side of the road. It is practically certain that operations commenced in Wootton in 1851. This could make it the first commercial ironstone quarry in the East Midlands. The length of the workings is unknown as no further details of the quarry exist.
