Summary

Cropmarks of two possible Bronze Age round barrows. The northern barrow has also been identified on a geophysical survey. Much finely worked flint including a barbed and tanged arrowhead found.

Full Description

{1} Cropmark of a ring ditch c.47m diameter and enclosing an eccentric rectangular feature. SP90987027. Fig.148. Fieldwalking pre 1969 by B.Dix. Worked flints, flint cores and a barbed and tanged arrowhead.

{2} Gives SP90967025. C.30m diameter.

{6} Field walking in spring 1969. No surface pottery or building stone but much finely worked flint and several cores found over a wide area. A perfect tanged and barbed arrowhead in pale coloured flint was also found. Gives grid ref. as SP 909706.

{7} (SP90967025) Circular crop mark c30m diameter.
(SP90997041) Circular crop mark.
Both visible on low oblique photos held by R Hollowell Cogenhoe. Perambulation of the sites produced much finely worked flint including a complete barbed and tanged arrowhead.

{8} The S site falls on ploughed and harrowed land and the N is corn stubble and grass; nothing of interest seen at either site and local enquiries negative. Copy of Hollowells air-photo attached.
