Full Description

{?} 2 ovens and a path were seen several feet below ground level in a gravel pit. The feature was semicircular, 6ft long by 2ft deep. It was constructed of red bricks 9x4.52 ins in size, set lengthways to an archway. 2 openings suggest there were two ovens but they were joined at the back. Charcoal was found in the fill.

{1} 2 small ovens were found in early 1926.

{2} Romano-British pottery was found in the soil above gravel pits at the north end of Syresham, where old ovens were also found.

{3} 'Two small ovens' apparently associated with Roman pottery were discovered in 1926.

{5} An ironworking site and unidentified features were observed. [Grid reference not given, but gives {1} as a source, indicating that it is this site]
