Surface finds of Roman pottery, roof tiles and limestone rubble indicating a possible 1st to 4th century AD villa

Full Description

{1} Fieldwalking; Romano-British pottery including some of Nene Valley type, together with a scatter of limestone rubble and roofing tiles perhaps indicating former buildings, over an of 50 sq. m. Small amounts of pottery are spread over a wider area;

{2} Roman pottery including grey and colour coat; stone scatter;

{4} Recent fieldwork has produced more evidence of a stone building, and the associated pottery is said to range from the 1st to the 4th centuries. The building may have been a villa;

{6} All the fields in this area have been recently ploughed. The indicated site and adjacent area were perambulated but nothing of interest was seen and enquiries at the farm were also negative. Dennis Jackson (MOW) stated that the pottery consisted of "half a dozen small sherds" it was not retained.

{7} NH 50 Roman pottery and ?building debris.
