At Domesday in 1086 three mills were recorded for Bartone. In 1580, two mills were held with Thorp Manor.

Full Description

{1} Documentary references point to two of the mills held in Earls Barton in 1086 possibly located on this site. In 1580 there were certainly two watermills in the manor of Thorpe. The hamlet was deserted by 1772, except for the mill.

{3} 1086 Domesday Survey recorded Bartone with three mills rendering28s 8d, all held by Countess Judith.
1580 Two watermills held with Thorp Manor.
1597 A child at Thorpe Mill fell into the water and the stream carried him under the 'new corne mill wheel which quashed him all to pieces'.
1682-1857 Craddock family were millers at Earls Barton mill.
1857 Mill advertised for sale.
1862 Water Corn mill, adjoining a dwelling house in Earls Barton, driving three pairs of stones, conveniently situated in Thorpe Field, advertised for sale.
1875 Advertisement for sale of the mill, vaving 14ft by 6ft waterwheel, all iron except the driving boards, driving three pairs of stones, flour machine and smutter.
1885 Peter bradshaw, miller, the last time this mill featured in trade directories.
1989 Mill-house advertised for sale with a guide price of £275,000.
