Monument record 2269 - Romano-British Settlement/Possible Prehistoric Burial Site, west of Wadenhoe

Summary
Various cropmarks have been identified on aerial photographs. To the east, there are at least two late Bronze Age/early Iron Age pit alignments and to the west is a complex of intercutting rectilinear enclosures and ring ditches. Fieldwalking surveys have identified Roman pottery in the vicinity of the enclosures.

Full Description
{1} Uncertain cropmarks.
{2} Fieldwalking identified a dark occupation layer with Romano-British pot sherds at TL004837.
{3} Cropmarks recorded in 1982. A double-ditched circular enclosure, circular enclosure, rectangular enclosure and other linear ditches. NCCAP:TL0083/067-68+70-73.
{4} No original notes. COMPLETE DATA PUBLISHED IN CBA.
{5} Pit alignment (TL 005835) W of Wadenhoe village on the N side of a small valley on Cornbrash at 170 ft above OD. Air photographs reveal short sections of two pit alignments meeting to produce a roughly Y-shaped pattern.
