Summary

Finds revealed during quarry working prior to 1904 are indicative of the presence of an early Saxon cemtery. The finds included urns found for both inhumation and cremation burials as well as spearheads, shield bosses and knives.

Full Description

{1} Finds revealed during quarrying. Early Saxon cemetery. Urns found for both inhumation and cremation burials. Also spearheads, shield bosses and knives. Contents of the graves are now in Northampton Museum.

{2} RCHME list some finds in Northampton Museum from one or more of the Brixworth cemeteries.An Anglo Saxon rough hand-made pot, and a bronze cruciform brooch (dated by Aberg to 500-550 AD) were found "near Brixworth". There is no evidence that they were associated in any way. They are now in Northants Museum.

SP 747720, SP 744715 RCHM notes Saxon objects in Northampton Museum that may be associated with cemeteries SP 77 SW 6 and 7 or other unlocated cemeteries possibly in the SW of the parish. They include parts of a large square headed brooch, three necklaces of amber and glass, a buckle, a horse bit, knives and 26 spearheads as well as a rough hand-made pot and other fragments of decorated pottery.

{3} Find of "..urn with cross on base.."

{4} Northampton museum has a large collection of objects from Brixworth, but un-differentiated.

{13} Indicated area was under pasture. No siting information at Northampton Museum.
