Summary

Fieldwalking surveys have recovered large quantities of artefacts from this location including Roman pottery, coins and bronze objects. The presence of building stone, roof and flue tiles and tesserae indicate a substantial building

Full Description

{1} Roman pottery, building stone, roof and flue tiles and tesserae indicate a substantial building, while other less pretentious buildings seem to surround it. Other finds from the general area include animal bones, oyster shells, bronze, iron and lead objects, fragments of glass and worked flints. A large number of 4th century coins have also been found.

{2} Finds included a bone comb. Bronze objects comprised pins, a bent pin broken at both ends, small bowl fitting, small hook, twisted piece of ribbed strip. Glass objects comprised a pale green bead and a blue bead (Iron Age). List of large number of coins found.

{3} Finds during late 1967 and 1968: 5 Roman coins and a small bronze hook.

{4} 4 Roman coins were found in 1969 along with a small bronze chain with a hook, the pin of a brooch and a flint scraper.

{5} In addition to coarse Iron Age sherds, the pottery includes cordoned sherds of Belgic type and Roman pottery of all types and periods. Other finds are animal bones, oyster shells, bronze objects (Brooches, flat ring, bracelets, pins, twisted strip, bowl fitting, hook, tweezers, chain), iron objects (nails, knife, lock), a pierced lead disc, pieces of lead, a bone comb, saddle and rotary querns (including one of pudding stone), fragments of glass, glass beads, numerous worked flints and abundant coins.
