Monument record 2388 - Possible Prehistoric Settlement

Summary
Cropmarks of an incomplete complex of enclosures, ditches and a possible ring ditch was observed on aerial photographs in the 1970s. Further cropmarks immediately to the south and comprising a rectangular enclosure which is partly enclosed by an oval/polygonal single-ditched feature is first seen on HE Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken 30th June 2015. The pair of features is considered likely to be the remains of a settlement or livestock enclosure of Iron Age/Romano-British date.

Full Description
{1} Enclosures and ditches (centred TL 026855). Air photographs show an incomplete complex of enclosures, ditches and a possible ring ditch, but the remains are not clearly visible.
{2} PLAN:25" SKETCH PLOT.
{6} A site comprising a rectangular enclosure (60m x 50m), with a possible entrance in its east edge, which is partly enclosed by an oval/polygonal single-ditched feature (approx 120m x 66m) is visible as cropmarks first seen on HE Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken 30th June 2015. The pair of features is considered likely to be the remains of a settlement or livestock enclosure of Iron Age/Romano-British date. The site is centred on NGR TL 02762 85366. [It is likely that this site forms part of the group of features decsribed in AMIE record 361122. It has also been transcribed but not yet recorded in AMIE by the Northamptonshire NMP in April 2000.]
