SNN100242 - Archaeological Evaluation Of The Paddock, Hall Farm, Stanwick, Northamptonshire

An application has been made to East Northamptonshire Council for outline planning permission to develop land at hall Farm, Stanwick for a small housing development (Applocation Ref. EN/99/0700), figs 1-2 and 13. Northamptonshire Heritage advised East Northamptonshire Council that an archaeological evaluation should take place prior to the determination of this application. The evaluation brief (issued 20th October 1999) specified that a desk-based study and trial trnch evaluation should be carried out (see appendix 1). The purpose of the evaluation is to establish if there are any medieval or earlier occupation remains which may be threatened by the development of the site. Special attention is also directed to the lane which may formerly have crossed the site, figs 2,3 and 5. The developer commissioned R.J.Ivens to carry out the archaeological evaluation on 14th December 1999. Proposals for the desk-based study and trial trenching were submitted to Northamptonshire Heritage on 18th January 2000 and approved granted on 20th January 2000 (appendices 1 and 2). The fieldwork was carried out on 27th and 28th January 2000. I would like to thank Mr S.Parry for allowing me access to an unpublished draft of his report on the Raunds Survey. The archive of photographs, drawings, notes and finds will be retained by the excavator until the planning application is determined after which it will be deposited in an appropriate museum. This report summarises the findings of the desk-based evaluation and trial trench investigation.
