Abstract/Summary

During February 2001 a programme of Test Pitting and a Watching Brief was undertaken at St Peter's Church Cogenhoe. The work was on the south side of the church aroundthe tower and the south west end of the south aisle. The cutting of a drainage trench running along the south side of the path from the porch was also observed. The stepped footings for the tower extend down about 1m below the present ground level. From the south west wall of the aisle a pipe trench was excavated to a silt pit about 1m south of the aisle wall. In this trench three articulated west to east burials were revealed, but did not require excavating. No further structural evidence or burials were found in a trench beside the main church yard path.
