Title | Archaeological desk based assessment of a site at 46-50 Sheep Street, Northampton |
Author/Originator | Soden I. |
Date/Year | 2001 |
Northamptonshire SMR Book Number | 6414 |
Abstract/Summary
An application to demolish existing buildings and redevelop the site of 46-50 Sheep Street, Northampton has potential archaeological implications. However, the cartographic and recent documented history of the site suggests that buried remains may be a denuded resource due to the presence of cellars, tanks and previous foundations. Ground contamination from petro-chemicals is possible. Historic maps suggest that the current street frontage is little changed from that first mapped in 1610.
