Abstract/Summary
Four trial trenches were excavated within a lorry park associated with the Red Lion Truck Stop, Harpole. Although the site lies in proximity to a recorded Romano-British villa, with Iron Age and Bronze remains also identified nearby, no features or artefacts pre-dating the 20th century were identified. It is understood that the site acted as a repository for soil generated during the construction of the M1 motorway in the 1960s. This is borne out by the site being characterised by over 1m of made ground comprising large fragments and tarmac.
