Title | A Desk Top Survey at Greenacres, High Street, Naseby |
Author/Originator | Martin Tingle |
Date/Year | 2003 |
Abstract/Summary
A desk-based assessment was carried out prior to trial fieldwork and development of the site. Roman and Anglo-Saxon remains have been found during evaluations of sites within 100m of the current development area. Earthwork and map evidence suggests that a hollow-way was aligned across the site and to the south a house may have been present, probably dating from the mid 17th century. The survey revealed the potential for Roman and Anglo-Saxon activity in close proximity to the site. There is also documentary evidence from the mid seventeenth century for the existence of a house immediately to the south of the site. The site visit revealed that the area to the front of the house had been levelled. To the rear two breaks of slope could be the remnants of the holloway which once passed through the site. However, modern landscaping of the garden appears to have significantly altered the land surface.
