Abstract/Summary

An excavtion was undertaken during construction of a sewage outlet. A trench c.37m long and 6m wide exposed an area containing inhumation burials. The burials were part of a large cemetery whose southern extent was exposed in 1967. The burials were laid out in three rows, their alignment suggests that they are christian burials. Two radio carbon dates place the burials 6-7th century AD. Pits dated 1150-1225 cut the southern burials. To the E of the burials there were parts of at least two medieval timber buildings which presumably formed backplot structures.
