Abstract/Summary

Northampton Museum houses a collection of 124 quernstones which are thought to have come fom the Iron Age hillfort at Hunsbury. The querns exhibit a wide variety of forms and they have been divided into 10 broad lithological groups: as a collection from a single site the Hunsbury querns are possibly unique for the wide range of rock types present and forms represented. They indicate clearly that Hunsbury was a site of importance with wide ranging contacts, from Derbyshire to Lincolnshire to Kent and Sussex in the south of England.
