Abstract/Summary
A survey summerising and reviewing the available archaeological and historical data regarding the Application Site and its surrounds is presented, together with an assessment of the impact of the development on any archaeological remains. The main conclusions are that the east part of the Application Site probably extends over the precinct of Sewardsley nunnery, but the cloicesters almost certainly lie to the east within the grounds of Showseley Farmhouse. The Application site may also contain evidence of medieval field systems and possibly early post-medieval agricultural buildings. It is unlikely that any significant pre-medieval remains would be encountered during the course of the proposed development. The nineteenth and twentieth century building will have caused substial damage to any archaeological remains. The proposed development partcularly the removal of existing yard and floor surfaces will significantly damage any surviving remains.
