Abstract/Summary

Archaeological desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by Northamptonshire Archaeology, for Barry Howard Holmees Limited, on about 0.93 ha of land between High Street and the old Towcester Road, Silverstone. The site is currently used as a wood yard and timber treatment plant. The land lies close to the mapped historic settlement core of Silverstone and within an area of old enclosures representimg early encroachment into the Whittlewood Forest. There is no record of any archaeological finds or features on the site. There are no records of any past use of the plot, other than as woodland or agricultural land, between the Domesday Survey and the erection of the wood yard in the early 20th century. There is a low potential for as yet unrecorded archaeological remains to exist on the site, particularly in connection with Roman finds which have come to light recently in the village.
