Abstract/Summary

Countrywide Estate Agents have applied for Listed Building Consent (S/2005/1327/LB) at 27 Market Place, Brackley, Northamptonshire in order that a new concrete floor can be installed in place of the current suspended wooden floor which had partially collapsed. The new concrete floor would be at the same level as an existing section at the rear of the building. The property is listed Grade II and lies within the core of the historic settlement of Brackley (Fig 1). A condition has been applied to the Listed Building Consent by the Conservation Officer of South Northamptonshire Council with advice from the Historic Environment Team Leader of Northamptonshire County Council. This requirement comprises archaeological recording being carried out prior to, and during, the removal of the current floor to investigate the floor and any potential remains beneath. The removal of the floor was undertaken on 3rd January 2006 and was monitored by an archaeologist from Northamptonshire Archaeology.
