Abstract/Summary
In July 2005 Archaeological Solutions Limited (AS) carried out a programme of archaological monitoring and recording on land between Huntingdon Road and Market Road, Thrapston, Northamptonshire (NGR SP 99747856). The monitoring was undertaken during groundworks associated with redevelopment of the site for residential use. Despite the location fo the site within the historic core of the market town and the potential for remains fo medieval and post-medieval structures and associated "back-yard" activity, no archaeological features or finds were present. A layer of made ground had been laid across much of the site in an attempt to compensate for the natural downward slope from south to north, and to create a more level surface for building. The inclusions of rubble and industrial debris indicate a modern date for the deposit. Below the latter was a layer of apparently natural sand and it overlay the natural clay of the area.
