Abstract/Summary

Scanning, using fluxgate gradiometers, found the background level of response to be generally low across the majority of the site. Isolated groups of anomalies thought to have archaeological potential were located, mainly along the western edge of the application area. Detailed survey located six areas of possible industrial activity. Several appear to have been damaged by the modern ploughing, however one group of anomalies appear intact and may indicate discrete industrial features. Many pit type responses have also been identified in these areas; it is possible some of them represent charcoal pits and/or rubbish pits filled with highly magnetic material, perhaps waste from the presumed industrial activity.
