Abstract/Summary

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken at St Peters Way, Cogenhoe, Northamptonshire. The site lies close to the medieval and post medieval core of the village of Cogenhoe. Significant archaeological remains of Iron Age and Romano-British activity, including a number of Roman burials, have been identified previously in close proximity to the proposed development area. The evaluation identified a post-medieval/modern demolition layer, as well as a possible make-up layer for modern gardens. No earlier archaeological remains, in the form of features or artefacts, were identified. This could indicate that Iron Age and Romano-British activity did not extend into this area, or that subsequent land clearance/levelling destroyed any archaeological remains.
