Abstract/Summary

Archaeological investigations were required as part of planning conditions on the construction of a siltation control lake on land adjacent to the Willow Brook south-west of Blatherwycke, Northamptonshire. Geophysical survey was undertaken which indicated the presence of archaeological features possibly related to historic iron production. Three reconnaissance trenches were subsequently dug and are reported on here. These confirmed the presence of archaeological features, however some of the geophysical responses appeared to relate to more recent surface activity. Construction of the lake ultimately took place without the planned phase of strip, map and sample excavation.
