Abstract/Summary

An archaeological desk-based assessment and modern disturbance review on the school site. The aim of the study was to establish the potential for the presence of archaeological remains at the site. Documentary and cartographic evidence show that the centre of the site has been heavily truncated by quarrying. The presence of a Roman kiln shows activity within the site boundary; however, it is likely that the majority of the evidence assocaited with the kiln was destroyed due to the quarrying. The northern half of the site has been truncated by the school and areas of associated hardstanding, and the very southern end by tennis courts and an orchard. The remainder of the site appears undisturbed, and as such it is possible for archaological deposits to survive. It is likely that any such deposits will relate to the Roman period.
