Abstract/Summary

76 buildings which form part of the Northampton Schools Review have been assessed for historic environment implications. 3 of these buildings are listed (grade II). It will need to be determines whether any proposed alterations to these buildings need listed building consent. If this is the case the usual procedures should be followed. 12 of these buildings are unlisted, but have historic conservation implications of county/local importance. The building conservation section of the Historic Environment team should be consulted. 2 of these buildings lie within a conservation area and one is adjacent to a conservation area. Conservation Area Consent will be required if demolition is proposed. It will need to be determined whether any proposed alteration to these buildings need Conservation Area Consent. If this is the case the usual procedures should be followed. 29 of these buildings have a significant historic environment potential and a building recording requirement may be necessary if substantial alterations are to be made. The Historic Environment team should be consulted and allowed access to the buildings in order to make a site assessment. 66 of these buildings lie on sites assessed as having low (but not zero) potential for the survival of important archaeological remains. The archaeology section of the Historic Environment Team would wish to be consulted on any major schemes (ie substantial re-use, re-development) proposed for these sites, in order that the impact of the proposals can be properly assessed. 6 of these buildings lie on sites assessed as being of moderate archaeological potential. The archaeology section of the Historic Environment Team would wish to be consulted on any substantial scheme (eg extensions to the building, significant below ground disturbance) proposed for these sites.
