Abstract/Summary
Desk-based and building assessment revealed that the two cottages had been originally built as one-up one-down structures, with the upper room contained within the eaves. At some stage during the nineteenth century the upper walls were raised to provide more head-room for the first floor. Probably at the same time the dividing wall between the two properties was replaced with brick. On the ground floor this had subsequently been replaced by modern brickwork and breeze blocks.
