Abstract/Summary

Archaeological excavations and a watching brief were undertaken during groundworks associated with the laying of a new Anglian Water pipeline between Thorpe Mandeville and Greatworth. Excavations were focused on two sites, one middle Iron Age and the other early Roman, which had been identified by previous geophysical survey. The scheme-wide watching brief yielded little more of interest. Analysis of the finds and site records indicate that only peripheral elements of both sites were examined, and that the material remains were not prolific and in generally poor condition. It is recommended that some further work is undertaken on the pottery and paleo-environmental remains, and that the dating of the Iron Age site is supported by radiocarbon determinations. The overall results are worthy of a brief publication.
