Abstract/Summary

Fieldwalking was undertaken by Northamptonshire Archaeology at Tansor and Cotterstock, Northamptonshire on the route of a proposed new sewer. This forms the Stage 3 of an assessment process that has previously comprised desk-based assessment (stage 1, Thorne 2004) and geophysical survey (Stage 2, Butler and Fisher 2004). The extent for these works is set out in the brief prepared by Northamptonshire County Council Historic Environment Team (Flitcroft 2004) and a specification prepared by Northamptonshire Archaeology (2004). This document comprises an interim statement setting out the results. IT is intended that it will be incorporated into a final assessment report together with the geophysical survey results and any subsequent fieldwork. Three fields were suitable for this technique (previously designated 3,4 ad 8 during the geophysical survey) and land totalling approximately 2.7ha was examined (Fig 1). Artefact collection was undertaken in 15m transects with stinting every 20m, four parallel transects were walked along the pipeline route.
