Abstract/Summary

In December 2010 a programme of archaeological test pitting was undertaken at the site of a proposed service station, adjacent to the A43 at Brackley. Two test pits were excavated, indicating that the site has been disturbed, probably during the construction of the A43. The level of disturbance is greatest in the northern part of the site, where Test Pit 2 indicated that the natural soil profile had been truncated and a layer of modern material deposited. Less disturbance was observed in Test Pit 1 in the southern half of the site, where part of the natural subsoil survives beneath shallower deposits of modern redeposited material.
