Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was maintained during the excavation of service trenches along the exterior of the south chapel and the entire east end of the church. The excavation of trenches for two storm drains and a soakaway was also monitored. No deposits or artefacts predating the nineteenth century were revealed. No distinct grave cuts were observed, though a little disarticulated human bone was recovered. Evidence suggesting the graveyard had been levelled-up in the 19th century was recorded. Details of the foundations of the nineteenth century church extensions were recorded as were those of a now demolished lean-to store against the east wall of the north chapel. A salt-glazed pipe was noted running from the latter though the east vestry wall; and was probably a duct for supplying air to the organ wind chest.
