Abstract/Summary

An archaeological trial trench evaluation was carried out during November 2006 by Northamptonshire Archaeology on land at Sandy Lane on the western side of Northampton. The work was carried out on behalf of Atkins Heritage prior to the proposed Sandy lane Improvement Scheme. In total, 33 trenches were excavated within the proposed road corridor and the footprint of an associated balancing pond. Archaeological remains were only encountered in four of the trenches. These comprised undated ditches and gullies most of which corresponded with geophysical anomalies. Other features identified by the geophysical survey were found to be attributable to modern disturbance or to be of probable geological origin.
