Abstract/Summary

Southwick Woods lie just south of the eponymous village. They comprise two long, isolated strips of woodland, separated only by a single plot. Each retains a distinct name: Shortwood to the west, Southwick Wood to the east. An excellent sequence of early maps enable detailed reconstruction of the medieval and evolving landscape on paper, with a high degree of confidence. Brief aspects of the former management regime of the land are apparent from documents.
