Abstract/Summary

Northamptonshire Archaeology conducted a desk-based assessment on land between Ashton Road and Herne Road, Oundle which revealed that the southern part of the site has previously been tentatively identified as the site of a Saxon chapel to St Scythe. No archaeological evidence has been found to support this theory and no archaeological investigation has been carried out within the proposed area of development. The site must, however, be considered to have some archaeological potential given its location along with the documentary and archaeological evidence for settlement in the vicinity.
