Abstract/Summary
Northamptonshire Archaeology was commissioned by Brian Barber Associates to carry out a desk-based archaeological assessment on 5.9ha of land east of Glebe Drive, Brackley, Northamptonshire. The evidence obtained from the historical and archaeological record indicates that there is a possibility of features of Iron Age date extending into the proposed development area. Associated enclosure ditches and field boundaries of the Roman settlement discovered in and around St Peter’s Church are also likely to extend eastwards. It is not known, however, whether these possible features would have been buried under the railway embankment, or destroyed by the building of the railway. It is unlikely that there would be any medieval features other than field boundaries. Remains from the construction and operation of the railway may survive in the field next to the embankment, as well as brick foundations for the viaduct at, or under, the southern end of the embankment.
