Abstract/Summary
Archaeological excavations and a watching brief were undertaken in advance of the laying of a water pipeline between Thorpe Mandeville and Greatworth, Northamptonshire. A middle Bronze Age cremation burial was recovered from the area east of Arbury Hillfort. The same area was also occupied by middle Iron Age settlement. Part of an enclosure containing a roundhouse was exposed and excavated, together with two contemporary ponds and a smaller enclosure. Roman ditches, excavated due south of Thorpe Mandeville, formed part of a wider distribution of features identified as cropmarks and geophysical anomalies. The pottery retrieved indicated occupation of the site between the late 1st and mid-2nd centuries AD but evidence for nearby structures was generally lacking.
