Abstract/Summary

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken in advance of residential development at Watts Close, Cogenhoe. Late Iron Age and Romano-British activity, including inhumation burials, had previously been identified from archaeological investigations in the area. A prior evaluation of the site had revealed two undated ditches beneath a subsoil layer. The archaeological monitoring and recording on the removal of the topsoil from the site, revealed no archaeological features. The two ditches recorded on the evaluation were sealed beneath a layer of subsoil which was not removed during the strip. However, the fact that few features were revealed in the trenches and the paucity of artefacts from the site suggests it was located away from occuption or the cemetery. Finds from the topsoil comprised late post medieval pottery and animal bone.
