Abstract/Summary

A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken at Watts Close, Cogenhoe. The investigations monitored the excavation of foundation trenches for a residential development. The site lies close to an area of Romano-British settlement, the excavations of which have revealed funerary activity and a corn drying kiln of 3rd-4th century date. Iron Age and Saxon remains are also known from the general area. During the medieval period the site lay at some distance from the centre of the village which is best represented by St. Peter's church. The investigations revealed a sequence of natural and subsoil deposits, the topsoil having been stripped previously. No archaeological features were identified and no artefacts were retrieved.
