Abstract/Summary

The archaeology desk based assessment, geophysical survey and trial trench evaluation gathers together evidence from written and map sources for past activity at Blatherwyck Hall, together with the results of geophysical survey, both magnetometry and resistivity and the evidence from sample trial trenches. The site is presently rough ground following the clearance of pine trees from the proposed development area. The survey has identified the remains of the Ripley house at Blatherwyk Hall and determined the precise location of the house demolished in 1948. Evidence of pre-existing medieval settlement has not been recovered from the proposed development area despite trenches within the former parterres of the gardens south of the house.
