Abstract/Summary

University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) carried out archaeological observation, investigation and recording of groundworks on land at the former Companions Public House, Hallwood Road, Kettering, Northamptonshire (87177 80159), on behalf of HP Construction Ltd. The initial groundwork had comprised of demolition of the former pub buildings and removal of concrete surfaces. Following this, the excavation of foundation trenches was undertaken for the new commercial development. Archaeological attendance on site was undertaken on the 20th November 2012. No archaeological features were recorded during the inspection. However a single modern feature was recorded within the foundation trenches that did contain a sherd of residual Roman pottery. A second sherd of Roman pottery was also recovered from an unstratified context within the foundation trenches.
