Abstract/Summary

Land approx 485ha in extent at Rugby Radio Station (RRS) has been identified as a possible location of a Sustainable Urban Extension to Rugby, for which parameter plans, a development framework and other technical documents are submitted in support of an outline planning application. This assessment forms a Technical Appendix and should be read alongside the Environmental statement. Its purpose, in accordance with the requirements of PPS5, is to enable decision makers and other stakeholders to understand the significance of heritage assets within and in the setting of the application site, and any potential impacts upon these arising from the proposed development. This Heritage Assessment, prepared initially as a draft archaeological desk-based assessment and Built Heritage Baseline Assessment under the provisions of PPG15 and PPG 16 has been updated to accord with the requirements of revised policy PPS5. The assessment draws on data in the English Heritage National Monuments Record, relevant Historic Environment Records, and other secondary sources, in order to establish the heritage potential of the site. In addition, baseline desk and field studies have been undertaken and are incorporated into this assessment to enable an informed planning decision on the heritage implications of the proposed development.
