Abstract/Summary
A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken at Great Addington, Northamptonshire. The investigations monitored the insertion of a new cable to the northeast of the village. The cabling trench is located in an area of prehistoric cropmarks comprising a ring ditch, possibly of Bronze Age date (2250-800 BC), as well as enclosures and pit alignments. A Neolithic (4000-2250 BC) stone axe is also recorded from the parish. A Roman (AD 43-410) road is believed to run across the cable route. The works were undertaken to the northeast of the medieval (AD 1066-1540) core of the village which is best represented by the 13th – 14th century church of All Saints. The cabling works were undertaken in such a way that archaeological deposits were never visible. Furthermore, there were no surface indications suggestive of such deposits being disturbed and no artefacts were retrieved during the investigation.
