Abstract/Summary

Northamptonshire Archaeology conducted an archaeological desk-based heritage assessment of land at Greens Norton, Northamptonshire. There are no designated assets within or close to the site boundary. There are no Historic Environment Record monuments within the site boundary, although an extensive area of cropmarks has been recorded in the fields to the south. The cropmarks appear to be the remains of a Roman rural settlement comprising ditched enclosures and trackways. Roman pottery has also been found in this area. Later Iron Age activity may also be present. It is possible that the area of activity extended north into the current site. During the medieval period the site appears to have been located within the open fields of the parish, some distance from settlement. No ridge and furrow earthworks have been noted within the field.
