Abstract/Summary

Northamptonshire Archaeology conducted an archaeological desk-based heritage assessment of land at Main Road, Syresham, Northamptonshire. There are no designated assets within the site boundary although there are a number of Grade II listed buildings in the vicinity. It is considered that there will be at most a minor impact on their setting by development. There is little evidence for earlier prehistoric activity in the vicinity and although Iron Age and Roman settlement has been recorded in the area, no evidence of activity in the village has been recorded. The site appears to have been located outside the medieval core of the village in the former open fields of the parish. Cartographic evidence suggests that a track, aligned north to south through th site, was in existence early 19th century. There is also potential for below-ground remains of ‘backplot’ activity associated with buildings on High Street in the northern part of the site.
