SNN110186 - Archaeological evaluation of land between Booth Rise and Talavera Way, Northampton, Northamptonshire

An archaeological field evaluation by trial trenching was carried out on land between Booth Rise and Talavera Way, Northampton, Northamptonshire (SP 78698 64893) by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) on 1 June, 2015. Work was undertaken for Westleigh Partnerships Ltd. in order to establish the nature, extent, date and significance of any archaeological deposits, to assess the impact of any proposed development on buried remains. Due to topographical constraints and the presence of services only three trenches were excavated across the southern half of the site, sampling c.2% of the accessible area. Overall, the results of the archaeological investigation were negative for archaeological substrata or features and trenching revealed extensive ground disturbance across the site. This is probably the result of groundworks associated with the construction of the A43 bypass around Northampton and the Round Spinney roundabout in the 1970s. A digital copy of the archive is provided in the appendices at the end of this report. The physical archive will be retained by ULAS under the accession number ULAS-15205 pending the provision of an appropriate recipient body. Northamptonshire’s Historic Environment Record (HER) has issued the event identification number ENN108013 for the site.
